Muse Collection ("Muse", "we", "us", "our") operates the website musecollection.org and the marketplace services available through it. We are the data controller for information collected through this site.

2. Information we collect

Information you give us directly

  • When you apply to sell: your name, email address, website or portfolio URL, and a description of your work.
  • When you create an artist account: your name, bio, profile photo, and payment details (collected and stored by Stripe — not by us).
  • When you purchase artwork: your name, email address, and payment details (collected by Stripe).
  • When you contact us: your name, email address, and message content.

Information collected automatically

  • Usage data: pages visited, time on site, referring pages, browser type, and device type.
  • IP address and approximate location (country/region level).
  • Cookies and similar tracking technologies — see Section 6.

3. How we use your information

  • To process artist applications and manage artist accounts.
  • To facilitate purchases between collectors and artists.
  • To process payments and payouts through our payment provider, Stripe.
  • To send transactional emails (application confirmation, approval, order receipts).
  • To respond to enquiries and provide customer support.
  • To improve the site and understand how visitors use it.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your data for automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

4. Legal basis for processing

We process personal data under the following legal bases:

  • Contract performance: to fulfil our obligations to artists and collectors using our marketplace.
  • Legitimate interests: to operate and improve our platform, prevent fraud, and communicate with users.
  • Consent: where you have opted in to marketing emails. You may withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legal obligation: where we are required by law to process your data.

5. Sharing your information

We share personal data with the following categories of third parties:

  • Stripe: our payment processor. Stripe collects and processes payment details directly. Their privacy policy is available at stripe.com/privacy.
  • Email service providers: used to send transactional and marketing emails on our behalf.
  • Analytics providers: used to understand site usage. Data is anonymised or pseudonymised where possible.
  • Legal authorities: where required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of users.

We require all third-party service providers to respect the security of your personal data and to treat it in accordance with applicable law.

  • Keep you signed in to your artist account.
  • Remember your preferences.
  • Understand how people use our site (analytics).

We retain personal data for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes it was collected for, including legal, accounting, or reporting requirements. When you close your artist account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within 90 days, except where we are legally required to retain it longer.

  • Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten").
  • Object to or restrict processing of your data.
  • Request a portable copy of your data.

9. Security

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. Payment data is handled exclusively by Stripe and is never stored on our servers.

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page reflects when it was last revised. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
